MakeMyManifest: Registry Free COM

Post by rlvision »

I just found out a neat feature that really is helpful when distributing applications. Something that has always bothered me with VB6 is that you need to register all your components during installs. My wish has been to make "portable" applications. Today I discovered that it is possible by using manifest files (XP+ only though). Manifests suck to edit by hand, so luckily there is a program called MakeMyManifest that can generate the manifest file needed based on VB6 project files. I tested it today on Win7 together with several TimoSoft controls and it worked!

Many thanks. I did know that registry free COM exists, but I did not know how to do it.
