Bye-bye privacy

Today the parliament of the European Union accepted a directive about massive observation of telecommunication. In future, your phone calls and all your internet activity will be logged and stored for 6 months up to 2 years. As it has become a bad habit after 9/11 when it comes to circumcision of the basic rights and freedom, the new measures are once again justified with fight against terrorism.
I wonder when our politicians will realize that they're giving away what our democracies once have stood for: freedom and basic rights. We bristle at police states like China or the former GDR, but are we really better when it comes to mass observation? I don't think so.
Man, this really pisses me off. I can't eat that much I wanna puke.
